Revolutionizing healthcare through innovation
My name is Jeff Taekman. I am a Professor Emeritus of Anesthesiology, the former Assistant Dean for Educational Technology and the former Director of the Human Simulation and Patient Safety Center in the Duke University School of Medicine. I also hold positions in the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the Duke Center for Health Informatics.
I was one of three inaugural elected officers and served on the Board of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare during its formation. I served on the inaugural Editorial Board of the Journal of Simulation in Healthcare and founded the Special Interest Group on Serious Games, and was the inaugural moderator or the Society's Listserv. My work in simulation has appeared in the Huffington Post, Fast Company and Wired, as well as on CNN, CBS, and ABC News.
In 2015, I expanded my academic interests to include wellness after Integrative Medicine had a profound impact on my health. I solidified my commitment to the field of integrative medicine by completing a 1000-hour fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.
In addition to my career-spanning passion for technology, I also am interested in dietary interventions in health, non-pharmacologic approaches to pain, and the microbiome. I believe emerging insight into the microbiome will fundamentally alter the practice of medicine.
I am interested in opportunities that combine my passions for healthcare, wellness, education, and technology (four out of four of these interests would be fantastic, but three out of four would still be stellar).
In addition to the blog on this site, I write publicly in two other bloga:
